    Stylish Things: Vacation Edition

This past week we were on vacation my with cousins and extended family at Solisterra Lake House cottage just outside Ottawa, Canada.  Our charming cottage was eco-friendly and was situated right on a sandy beach and quiet lake.  It was wonderful spending quality time together without the distraction of a T.V. or the internet. It was also a welcome change not wearing makeup, styling my hair, or thinking about what to wear for an entire week.

One of my favorite things about vacation is having the time to read.  I brought along my new Kindle and was immersed in this book.  Of course reading is not complete without a drink right? I am not much of a beer drinker so I opted for a Shandy (beer + ginger ale) instead.

I loved the look and feel of the rustic kitchen.  We all gathered here first thing in the morning to enjoy French pressed coffee, English tea, and toast.

Julie cut peaches to make a warm fruit sauce for our pancakes. She made the sauce with fresh peaches, raspberries, butter, and maple syrup.

My cousins rented two paddleboards and they were a huge hit with everyone. The paddleboards are so versatile and and fun because you can row while standing or sitting or you can lay down on the board and cruise along the lake.

My cousin Vik (from London) made us Pimms + Lemonade. This classic British drink, which is almost as much of a tradition as tea, was refreshing and perfect for the warm weather.

We were all amazed that Ariyana was content and entertained with a simple bucket and plastic container. She spent countless hours playing in the sand and water pretending to make pancakes and oatmeal for the fish.

Every evening after dinner we would sit outside by the campfire, make S'mores, and admire the open sky  full of stars. I didn't see any shooting stars but my cousins spotted several of them.

    Stripes + Side Ponytails

Zara tunic, Jacob jean jacket, Amrita Singh necklace, Loft sunglasses, BCBG clutch, Aldo belt, and Banana Republic Shoes

Last Sunday, aside from going for a moring run, I pretty much took it easy and lounged for much of the day. But we did make a last minute decision to hit our favorite local spot, Gaslight, for dinner. I threw on this striped tunic and added a few fun accessories to finish off the look. All summer long I have been wearing similar outfits consisting of easy breezy dresses, bold and colorful pieces of jewelry, and fun and inexpensive sunglasses.

    Coconut Macaroons

A few weeks ago my parents were visiting us in Boston so I took them to Flour bakery for coffee and some sweet treats. Both of them are huge fans of anything with coconut so we decided to order the coconut macaroons.  And after having these delicious macaroons at the bakery I was inspired to try making them myself at home. Ok so it took me about two weeks to finally get around to making them but I am glad I did and I used the recipe from the Flour cookbook. The macaroons were super easy to make and they turned out exactly like they were at the bakery.  Next time I might try making bite size coconut macaroons with chocolate chips.

Zara dress, Miu Miu shoes, Tory Burch cuff, Charles David clutch, Michael Kors watch

After a busy Saturday consisting of attending a birthday party, shopping at Costco and Trader Joe's, and getting a car wash in preparation for our upcoming vacation, it was nice to get dressed up and have an adult evening out.  Aneesh and I met up with several of our friends for dinner at an Italian restaurant called Da Vinci in the South End of Boston. It was a great night out and the menu they featured for Restaurant Week  did not disappoint.

And several weeks ago I popped into Zara to make a quick return but somehow I ended up leaving with this silk dress. Since I do not own a single item of clothing with bold geometric patterns I thought the dress would be a great addition to my fall/winter wardrobe.

    Something Old and Something New

This week is Restaurant Week in Boston so several of my girlfriends and I got together last night for dinner at Sibling Rivalry in the South End.  It was nice catching up with everyone and of course it was a great excuse to get all dressed up on a Wednesday evening. I decided to wear this black lace maxi skirt which will also be a great piece to transition from summer to fall. I also wore these Stuart Weitzman sandals I scored on sale at Bloomingdales last week.

And the last time I visited my mom she gave my sister and me several pieces of her vintage jewelry. This necklace (worn as a bracelet) and gold ring were both given to her over 40 years ago by her family when she got married.  I treasure and adore these items because they are sentimental and they are pieces I can pass on to Ariyana when she gets older.
